Dear All I am currently on MTX 25mgs and 1 tablet of 200mg hydroxochloroquine (daily). As the DMARDS are not working I am to be assessed next week for anti tnf drugs, I have done a little bit of research on which one I would like to try (if I get a choice) however I have noticed that since they upped my MTX from 2omgs to 25mgs I am losing some hair which is not too noticable but has happened over the last 12 months. Obvioulsy I am very upset about it and wondered if any of the anti tnf drugs stop this happening. I have noticed that hair loss is on the list of possible side effects with Humira. I have been told that I will still have to take MTX but I am hoping that it would be a reduced dosage and therefore stop the hair loss. Ant advice please

I`ve been on humira for almost four years now, and haven`t experienced any hair-loss. I take it on its own, as I had to stop MTX after respiratory problems.

I know most consultants prefer that MTX is taken alongside anti-TNF drugs, but mine has taken the view that as long as its working well solo, she`s happy to let me continue. I don`t feel it`s less effective on its own, but that`s just me - everyone is different.

I didn`t choose humira, it was decided for me by my rheumy, who thought it would suit me best because of my metabolism.

Hi,I'm on MTX and Hydroxy and I had hair loss at the start of taking MTX.Quite bad when I washed my hair. However, after having a word with the rheumy nurse she told me to increase the Folic Acid from one tablet a week to four.I take MTX on Sat. then one Folic on Mon.Tues.Wed. and Thurs. My hair is now back to normal and I havn't been losing any more.May be worth having a word with your nurse to see if she thinks increasing the Folic would help you. Hi

I have been on mxt for 9 years and had slight hai rthinning. Now, my hair is coming out a lot and my rheummy dr thinks it is more to do with thyroid function than mxt. I have had underactive thyroid for 18 years and have been on same amount of thyroxine for most of that time but it has suddenly changed and I have had to reduce thyroxine. Dr also told me to reduce mxt by 5mg as well to see if it helps. It seems to have slowed down slightly but not a lot. The problem is I don't know whether it is the mxt or the thyroid causing the problem. What I do know is that I got very distressed about my hair and I think that was making it worse. Easier said than done, I know but try not to worry so much about it and it might ease off.
